Good SQL books for (SQL-server, oracle, DB2, Postgress, MySQL)

Hello All,

Anyone could suggest good books for writing SQL?
(and also optimise the performance of SQL statements).

I am planning to buy 2 or 3 SQL related books. I know the basic SQL (e.g. writing join, left join, nested join). I have been using SQL for 3 months. I am working as a data analyst/ data mining consultant. So I am NOT looking the DBA parts or the programming parts. Just writing adhoc SQL queries to extract data for data mining purpose. The queries have to be optimised and fine tuned.

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Thanksif you are trying to cover the bases then SQL in a nutshell from O'Reilly is quite usefull. although it has dated very quicky as new verions have come out.

The version I have covers SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle & PostgreSQL.

As to to fine tuning tuning your weaponf fo choice should have suitable tools such as explain etc...|||Thanks, I bought this just now from amazon. Yes, one of them is SQL in a nutshell. Hopefully they are good choices.

For me, The Data Warehouse Toolkit was a great place to start. It's by
Ralph Kimball (and Margy Ross).

Hi,
I am a newbie in the world of the SQL server . However I have a
reasonable idea of SQL and a little bit of Oracle. Could you please suggest
some good online resources for me preferable starting from scratch... but
leading in real deep.

isnt a Microsoft product. Some shops are purely Microsoft, so I dont know
what your company rules are. ProIT is web based, has a bunch of decent
management packs, very nice trending and snapshot reporting, and easy to
configure alerts. Doesnt take long to get it installed and working at all.
Only downside at the moment is that there are no agents for Sybase or Sun
Solaris 10, but they have agents for almost every other database and OS. All
the Microsoft ones are covered.

good editor tools for script file

Hi, can anyone suggest a good and free editor tools for script file? so it
would be eaiser to tell the begin... end...I don't use any specialized editor. I use Query Analyzer or Textpad, and I
find them more than adequate.

BEGIN/END pairs is just one of hundreds of nifty features.
