Granting permissions to stored procedures

I am using the following code to grant user access to the stored procedures in my database. However, it does not appear to be working because I am getting an access denied message when running the application as the user.

Here is the code I am using:

Code Snippet

' Grant privileges

Dim ExecutePrivilege As New ObjectPermissionSet

ExecutePrivilege.Execute = True

' Grant privileges to all non-system stored procs

' The following line improves performance

SmoServer.SetDefaultInitFields(GetType(StoredProcedure), "IsSystemObject")

For Each sp As StoredProcedure In db.StoredProcedures

If Not sp.IsSystemObject Then

sp.Grant(ExecutePrivilege, loginName)

End If

Next

Is there something else I need to do, like a Save or Refresh or something? (I've stepped through the code and it *is* executing for each of my stored procedures. It just does not appear to actually have updated the priviledge.)

Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Security related commands are always executed directly, unless you change the setting from the context to only script the commands like the following statement does:

svr.ConnectionContext.SqlExecutionModes = SqlExecutionModes.CaptureSql;

The reflected sources show that a property is set for this which is called

so.ForDirectExecution = true;

Did you have a look in the profiler to see if the commands are arriving at the server and are eventually bounced back due to errors occuring during applying the script ?

Jens K. Suessmeyer

http://www.sqlserver2005.de|||

I skipped the profiler and went right to the database. I can view permissions, and they are actually set correctly. So the code is executing. (Should have thought of that before I posted!<G>)

The problem is that when I try to access any of the stored procs (or the tables), I get a "permission was denied on the object" message. So something else is obviously wrong.

This particular code happens to be in VB6, accessing SQLServer Express. When the *same* code accesses a SQL Server 2000 database, it runs without this error.

Any idea what could be wrong here? Or at this point do I need to move the question elsewhere since it does not appear to be an SMO problem.

Granting Permissions to Roles in SQL Server 2005

I have several years experience working with SQL 2000 and we are now
also working with SQL Server 2005. I have found Management Studio a
bit tricky to work with, MS seems to have gone backwards in a few
areas.
In Enterprise Manager, permission granting was not the best but it was
simple and worked well. In Management Studio granting permissions to
a new role now seems to be very slow and tedious.
First of all it is about six mouse clicks to browse views only, then
select views one at a time (no ctrl or shift + click allowed), click
OK then you need to click through each view and then click Select (or
whatever rights). Clicking through each view for the first time takes
a few seconds on my laptop (1 user, core 2 duo, 2GB ram!).
I personally try and use the mouse as little as possible, keyboard
shortcuts are much faster. The other problem is that frequently the
role does not save correctly, ie. grant rights then click OK, load the
role again and my changes are gone!
We can't use Schemas because our app references dbo.ObjectName
everywhere and it would be impractical to change this to
Schema.ObjectName, or just ObjectName in all of our code. We did this
because referencing objects as dbo.ObjectName was optimised faster
than just ObjectName.
Has anyone else experienced the same problems?Others have mentioned some problems with using the GUI for
managing and viewing security. There is a lot more
complexity to SQL Server 2005 security than there was in
2000. Some of the "views" people were used to in 2000 just
aren't worth as much or as practical in 2005.
But...writing a T-SQL statement worked in 2000, works just
the same in 2005 - you just have more options as to what you
can grant and in what scope in 2005. If you use T-SQL and
scripts for your changes, you have a record which documents
to some degree what you executed, can keep the changes in
source control. In the same regard, you can write a lot
better queries to obtain security information in 2005
compared to 2000.

The purpose of the more complex dialogue is that will encourage you
to type your statements! As Sue said, this pays off in the long run.
Joking aside, note that there is a Script button in every window, so
you can use the GUI for the first guy to get a template, if you
are not up to pace with the syntax.

No one forces you to use schemas. With "dbo." or not, adding
schemas to an existing application, is a major undertaking. For
the system I work with, schemas would fit in perfectly with what
we call subsystems, but given the size of our app, it's not going
to happen any time soon.

Scripting admin tasks seems the way to go, having an audit trail can
come in handy. There is definitely some nice security functionalty
available with SQL 2005, just the GUI seems to be a bit flawed.

Grant login to remotemachine\ASPNET

Hello Group,
I am working on an ASP.Net project. It will work on the same server that
runs SQL Server. For that reason all I did was grant the server's ASPNet
account access to the database. The problem is that when I am debugging
(from my remote machine) I can't connect because my station's ASPNet account
is not recognized by the server, as it only accept its own server\ASPNet
account.
How can I grant login to my remotemachine\ASPNet Account to that SQL Server?
Thanks ahead for all replies!

Grand Total in Matrixes

Hi,
I am working on matrix report that uses 3 matrixes like below.
In Grand Total matrix, I want to sum matrix 1 and matrix2 subtotals and
display as Grand Total. I had a difficulty to find out the expression for
this(how to reference the subtotals in matrixes?)?
Can we do this or any limitations?
Matrix 1:
Week1 Week2
Sub Total 10 20
Matrix 2:
Week1 Week2
Sub Total 15 25
Grand Total
Week1 Week2
Grand Total 25 45
Any pointers in this regard is appreciated
Thanks

Since you have multiple columns that have subtotals, you most likely
will want to sum the subtotals together as part of another report
dataset (via a separate stored procedure/query). If there was only one
subtotal column per matrix, you might have been able to reference
aggregates via an expression similar to this.
=Sum(Fields!Week1.Value, "dsMatrix1") + Sum(Fields!Week1.Value,
"dsMatrix2")
Where dsMatrix1 and dsMatrix2 are the example dataset names used for
Matrix1 and Matrix2 respectively.
Hope this helps.

GPF Error

Hello,
Last week I began working in CR and am having a problem that is driving me crazy. I am using CR 10 in an XP envoronment (verson 2002, SP 2). I install CR with no problems and use it for about two or three hours. Than it starts giving me GPF errors every time I try to add an object to a report. This can be a field, parameter, graphic or text or any other object, it does not matter.

In order to fix this I have un-installed and re-installed CR 4 times, on two different drives. I have updated it with the latest Service Pack (6) and still I get the same problem. It works for a few hours after the install and then stops. This is the case for new as well as existing report.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Steerforth.Forget this post. I just found out what the problem was. I have a dual monitor and the GPF only happens when my screen is in the second monitor and CR is maximized.

Got rows that I can't get rid of

I was working with my DB. I wrote some unit test it failed and I didn't
clean up it correctly in the code. So usually in this case I just go to DB
and clean it myself by hand and lean my lesson. But this time some records I
just can't delete - it tells me that record doesn't exists because it was
modified by other user ?
I restarted machine - didn't help.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Shimon. How are you trying to delete?
Is There a Primary Key on this table?
The message you describe sounds like an ADO or ODBC message. Can you just
go to query analyzer and do a Select and see if the row is in the database?

Everytime I refresh the query it returns me that record exists. II try to
delete dependent connected (with foreign rel) records that tells me that I
can't because there are related records.

Got BIDS working, was there another way?

i re-installed the SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE several times(4) trying to get the BIDS part to work. Each time i had the issue of it looking for the devenev.exe as others have mentioned. I gave up on a 5th install and went for the unsupported option of running vs_setup , after the toolkit.exe dumped all the install files to its temporary directory i went in there and ran it sperately...but essentially i did it the same way as this method...

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=368549&SiteID=1

while this did work, it seems to be the unsupported way.

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=665067&SiteID=1

Im not opposed to going back and doing it right, but was there ever a conclusion as to why the BIDS program sometimes doesnt install? im using 2k5 express products on this machine...

Did you have any other version/Edition of Visual Studio on your computer when you installed the Toolkit? If so, which version and Edition? Was the existing version/Edition installed to the Default location?

I've not been able to reproduce this problem myself, which makes it hard to figure out how to fix it. Thanks for the additional information.

Mike

|||

the Visual Studio products currently on this machine are all express editions, this would include

vb express, C# express, and visual web developer express...

i think its important to mention i had the pro beta 2k5 on this machine as well.... i know there was trouble for some upgrading their visual studios to 2k5 after having used the beta so maybe this issue ties into that?

let me know if theres any more info i can provide.

|||

Mike,

I have tried to install BIDS ( from the tool kit) on two different machines each are not finding devenv.exe. Both machines are winXP sp2. Both machine have netframe 1.1 and 2.0. Both machines have sql 2005 express advanced. One machine has VS 2003 and the other machine has vs c# express and web developer express. Both toolkit installs were done to the default directory.

I hope this helps in youor being able to recreate and provide a fix.

|||

Thanks to both of you for your replies, one more piece of information I'm looking for is the path to which you installed the VS programs. If you could reply with that, it would be very helpful.

Mike

|||I ran through the toolkit install again to capture the default installation path but since It saw that "...the selected component is already installed" , I did not see it. So.....went to Control Panel/add/remove programs and seeing no change/remove specifically for BIDS, I selected MS SQL Server 2005 change. Then selected BIDS to be removed. Afterwards, I ran the tool kit install and selected only BIDS to be installed but still get the message that the selected component is already installed. So........where to now? Is it time to just start over by uninstalling/re-installing evrrything from netframe 2.0, sql express and VS express?|||

Hi Kendsr,

I think you're mis-interpreting what I'm asking. I want to know where you installed Visual Studio not BIDS. There seems to be an association between having any Visual Studio Edition installed on your computer to a non-default location prior to installing BIDS that is causing this problem and I'm trying to determine if this is the case for you.

Thanks for the additional troubleshooting. Also, make sure to do a search on your computer for devenv.exe to see if it is found anywhere on your computer at all.

Mike

|||my path for the express products is

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8

i take the defaults when i install, just out of the memory of .dll troubles of yesteryear and things looking for the default paths.... However i could see how having the beta of 2k5 installed at the time might have made the installer default to another directroy... let me know if theres any more info youd like... i guess we could always look for registry problems?|||

Just to confirm, do both of you have a working version(s) of Visual Studio on your computer?
If so, what versions?
Could you pull up the properties of the shortcut for your VS product and let me know what the target is?

A bit of a technical explaination here: BIDS is not a product, it is a set of VS projects that allow you to build RS reports. These projects are available from any non-Express VS product. Devenv.exe is just the normal VS development shell, and the BIDs shortcut is simply a pointer to the VS shell. If you have a non-Express version of Visual Studio 2005 installed before you install BIDS, the shortcuts the BIDS and VS should point ot the same place.

As I've said, we've found that if you installed VS to a non-standard location, it looks like the BIDS shortcut ends up pointing to the wrong place. The work around is to update the shortcut to point at the actual location where devenv.exe is sitting. The story is more complex if you have one of the VS Express Editions on you computer, we can't leverage VS Express installations, so we have to install our own copy of VS for BIDS to use.

Thanks for sticking with this and providing this information.

Regards,

Mike

|||i have what appears to be fully working express products....

C # express
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\VCSExpress.exe"

vb express
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\vbexpress.exe"

web dev express
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\VWDExpress.exe"

if its looking for a full version of Visual studio i can see why it was missing... i had the beta of 2k5 but have since uninstalled it(before i attempted sql server express installs) ... i havent really made a full project out of any of the express products but i have several littel test like apps that compile and run with no errors.

another thing to note is that im pretty sure i searched for a devenv.exe and came up empty handed when i ran a search on my PC... i was going to try and point the shortcut at the right place....

im still open to more questions so feel free to ask away !|||

Normally this problem is related to non-default installation location, which doesn't seem to be the case here. I'm wondering if something about having the beta version installed might have caused this issue. If all you have on your computer is the VS Express editions, then you wouldn't find devenv.exe, since VS Express use different environments. In that case, the Express Toolkit should install it's own version of VS to be used by BIDS.

You actually got this working by running vs_setup.msi individually, right? We'll likely not be able to track down the cause of the original problem in this case, but I want to make sure you actually have a working verson of BIDS. In your case, it seems something prevented the Toolkit installer from correctly running vs_setup.msi during the full product setup, I'm guessing it's related to the beta.

Mike

|||

let me see if I understand all this.......

On my laptop which has .net1.1, .net2.0, sql express 2005 and VS c# express......the tool kit should have installed it's own version of VS to be used by BIDS. I don't see this version and there is no devenv.exe on the laptop.

On my machine at work which has .net 1.1, .net 2.0, sql express 2005 and VS 2003......the toolkit would install the BIDS projects to be used by VS 2003. There is a devenv.exe in the VS 2003 directory and when I change the target on the BIDS shortcut to point to that version, I don't see the BIDS projects.

In both cases of installing the toolkit, I was never asked nor did I provide an installation path. So I'm not exactly sure where the toolkit went. The laptop thinks BIDS is still installed as I can't do a re-install after removing it via control panel/ms sql server/change.

I'm willing to stick this out as I'm keen on evaluating this tool, but I have to admit, it should not be this complicated.

|||yeah i was able to get the BIDS to install by running the vs_setup.msi by itself... it seems to be fully functional and such, but i was double checking because i would hate to run into a brick wall later on down the road...
not sure what it was about the beta, but i seem to recall lots of bug issues with people installing the pro vs 2k5 ... maybe its all related , but somehow i think im the only one around here that ran the beta and not the express... oh well another mystery, but at least it has a work around... thanks for looking into things|||

Hi Kendsr,

Let me see if I can take a step back and explain how this all works...

What is BIDS? - BIDS is a set of Project Templates that plug into Visual Studio 2005. Depending on the Edition of SQL Server you install, you can get projects for Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services. For SQL Express Toolkit you only get the Reporting Services templates because that's all that is installed by SQL Express.

What is devenv.exe? - This is the executable for the Visual Studio development environment. BIDS can only use the Visual Studio 2005 development environment, earlier versions can't be used.

How does SQL Express Toolkit use VS 2005? - When you install BIDS from the SQL Express toolkit, we look to see if you have any non-Express Edition of Visual Studio 2005 installed. If you have one of theses Editions installed, we just install the BIDS Project Templates and add a BIDS shortcut that points to the existing VS 2005 devenv.exe. If you don't have VS 2005 installed, or if you only have the VS Express Editions installed (which don't have devenv.exe), then we install a scalled down version of VS 2005 along with the BIDS Project Templates and shortcut.

As I said earlier, we only use VS 2005, you can not use BIDS with VS 2003. In the case where you have only VS 2003 installed, SQL Express Toolkit should install the scaled down version of VS 2005 for use by BIDS, it won't even recognize the 2003 install.

Now back to your specific configuration

We've found an issue where the BIDS shortcut points to the wrong location when any Edition of VS 2005, including the Express Editions, is installed to a non-default location before the Toolkit is installed. In this case, devenv.exe does exist on the computer, it's just not where the BIDS shortcut thinks it is. In this case, simply pointing the shortcut to the correct location solves the problem. (Again, this is 2005 only, you can't use 2003 for this.) Specifically, devenv.exe is installed under <root>\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE where <root> is what ever non-default location you picked during Visual Studio 2005 installation. (Note: This has nothing to do with the location where you install SQL Express Toolkit)

You see to have some other issue that results in the scaled back version of VS not being installed when it should be. It would be interesting to take a look at your setup logs from when you installed the Toolkit to see if they say anything about what happened. The setup logs are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG, could you find the logs from when you installed Toolkit and see if there is anything interesting?

Could you also take a look at the shortcut for C# Express on your computer and tell me where it points to?

Thanks,

Mike

|||

That's the explanation I was looking for. The only thing I see in the Summary.txt file are messages about not meeting hardware requirements ( i believe this is memory though I have 512MB on both machibes - maybe that's not enough? Though the checks during install only issue a warning) also message about install being interupted which I believe coincides with the message saying BIDS is already installed. I've tried this several times on my laptop and probably have it good and hosed by now. It might be a good idea to reinstall sql express 2005 and then the tool kit again. Now that I kno where to look foe install messages, that might be easier. At one time - in the early log files The file "...TOOL.txt" showed successful install. Also saw a successful removal but no other "...TOOL.txt" files since. Is it possible to just remove sql express 2005 via the control panel and start over or do I need to clear out anything else?

As far as the machine at work, I'll check it when I get in tomorrow. Probably will want to do the same thing.

Thanks for your patience

Mike,

I have tried to install BIDS ( from the tool kit) on two different machines each are not finding devenv.exe. Both machines are winXP sp2. Both machine have netframe 1.1 and 2.0. I hope this helps in youor being able to recreate and provide a fix.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks,

Mike

Good SQL Server Site?

I've been working with FirebirdSQL and Delphi for some years now. Most
of our new projects will be VS2005 and SQLServer 2000/2005. Can anyone
recommend a good site for learning SQL Server SP language?
For instance, how do I refer to a new row/field inserted or updated in
an after insert/update trigger? In FirebirdSQL it would be
"New.FieldName".
Thanks,
Warm Regards,

Good practice when working with objects using SQLServer as a secure store.

I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before, so I'm after a link to a good answer.

I have tens of thousands of milk crates, holding dozens of different types of milk in hundreds of locations. I am used to working with objects but not databases. For this situation however I want the security of SQLServer transactions to track, for example, when a robot moves a crate from one location to another.

I am thinking of using SQLServer as a store. On startup I want to get my ecosystem of objects out of the store. While I am running, I'll just use objects. When I change an object property I want it to securely persist. I don't want to snapshot the whole menagerie of object states, just update the values that changed. Which will sometimes include the addition or deletion of objects. How do I do this? Is there an example somewhere that does this (or approximately this)?

I use VB and have Visual Studio 2005. (Which, by the way, is stunning. I thought all that "you will use less time and code more and better" talk was just hype. But its for real. Amazing product.)

John

I think what you're asking is more on the client (VB programming) side than strictly in the database layer. I'd recommend checking out some of the "best practices" books and sites - you can check this one out to start:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/ms789183.aspx

Sorry if that's too basic - you may have already seen that site.

Good books about huge databases ?

Hey
I need some good books about working with enormous amount of data. The table
rows are counted in milions. Have you used SS-2005 with such big amount of
data ? What was your experiences ? Any bad things happend ? Any supprises ?
Any bugs ? Is there big perfomance diffrence between SS-2000 and 2005 ?
What books will you recommend to read to get to know some nice techniques ?
What articles ? What websites ? Maybe there is some forum for developers /
programmers for such databases ?
Please share your experience :)
JarodSQL Server 2005 is really nice...
more functions
more speed
more realibility
more services
etc...
I'm reading from Wrox Professional ADO.NET 2: Programming with SQL Server
2005, Oracle and MySQL
it's a generalist book but they have more and only for SQL Server 2005
check them out: http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-131384.html
and you can always buy it from amazon.com or amazon.co.uk where I buy my
books from Wrox

I'm currently reading "The Art Of SQL"
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0596008945). Pretty good explanations
of database and query concepts.|||You may also want to pick up some books on Data Warehousing; different
design model, and different design rules, but if you're dealing with
millions of rows of data, you may find yourself looking at OLAP cubes
eventually. Look for stuff by Kimball.
I had to laugh recently: Microsoft is running this ad campaign about
companies that run SQL Server 2005; Hilton supposedly has a 7 million
row data warehouse that load 1.4 million rows of data a day. In our
shop, we process over 40 million rows of data a day on SQL 2000.
SQL Server 2005 is very nice, and there are a lot of performance
enhancements, but SQL 2000 has been an enterprise class database for a
long time. If you have the choice, go with SQL 2005; if not, you can
do a lot with SQL 2000

GoDaddy / MySQL / SQL Server

I don't know if this is unique to GoDaddy: I found the program for working with a MySQL database very intuitive (to the point of compliments). Today I started work with ASP.NET and SQL, and when I went to work with SQL Server (on GoDaddy), it wasn't intuitive, and there was almost nothing on which to click. By chance might there be a tutorial that would help a person who needs to work with SQL Server on a provider like GoDaddy?

This may help...

http://forums.asp.net/thread/1456464.aspx

|||

I'm going through it, and I come to a point where I think it asks me to connect to the server (IP and PORT). I believe GoDaddy doesn't allow this (if someone reads this and I've misinterpreted it, please hollar--I know there is something that GoDaddy forbids regarding connected outside of their system).

If the above is true, does that make it so that the above process won't work (that's what I'm thinking right now.

However, thank you for the above link, because it gave me an idea. GoDaddy has it so that you can run queries. If I had a database with 250 entries and I didn't want to retype them all, I might be able to construct the database through the query box. Thanks! (going to test that out now.)

|||

The thread was started as a request by a newbie for help for someone who is on GoDaddy and they got to the SQL Server, and then they were stuck (what do I do next?) Over time I figured it out, and if you came to this post because you are "stuck", feel free to continue the thread with another question. I'm putting some basic things you want to know below:

Assuming that you've created a database under SQL Server and given it name and a password, and that you clicked on "Open Manager" in the row with the name of your database are now on a page with a name likehttps://mssqladmin.secureserver.net:

You see Quick Help with a bunch of words and icons (this doesn't help you though, those are not links, those are things you will see later).

On the left, you see Connection and Preferences, click Connection. Click the new link 'connection' the comes up underneath.

Put in your user name and password and click Connect.

There should be a new choice between Connection and Preferences on the left and it may have a name like whsql-v03.

Click that. You should then see Databases and Tools, and both will be helpful. Click Tools and then Query Analyser. This box is where you can type a query line that creates a table for your database:

CREATE TABLE mydictionary (word nvarchar(50), definition text)

and if it creates successfully, you will see "The command(s) completed successfully." appear underneath. You now have a table with two fields, word and definition.

Go back to the menu on the left and click Databases. something like DB_123456 comes up and click on that. Underneath you have Tables, Views, Stored Procedures. Click Tables. A list of tables comes up, many that you didn't make, but look for yours at the bottom. Don't click it just yet--instead, mouse over to all the icons on the right in the same row, and click the first one, content.

Look for the word Actions and then click that yellow star/asterisk. The next window gives you text boxes to put in your first entry. Fill them and click Insert.

At this point you have a database. It doesn't have things that are important, like a primary key with auto_increment, but the database will work for the purpose of confirming your first success.

|||

My advice to Godaddy users is to start with getting a simple page working that writes to one table in your new database. That will give you a web.config file with a working database connection and you can move on from there.

The web.config database connection seems a particular issue for newbies, I've put together a page with tips based around going live on GoDaddy with SQL Server, when you've got SQL Express on your local PC.

Global Variables

Hello,
Im having a little problem(i hope) with global variables.
Im working with the DTS of the SQL SERVER 2000! Does someone knows how can i load global variables using an SQL Task!?
Thank you all!!
Kind Regards,
LULUin package properties, add global variable x with correct type
create execute sql task , select the value you want to
populate your global variable, click on parameters in the exec sql task properties,
click on output parameters, set type (row, rowset), map the output to the correct global variable.
To use the variable, in a exec sql task, click on parameters,
get your global variable, map it to parameter 1
then in query use a ? to reference the global variable.

Global Server Variables

Is there a way in SQL Server to setup Global Server Variables or Constants

We are working with an Off the Shelf Constituent Management application based on SQL Server. We can only read from the App's DB. So we setup another DB to run SP to access the data in the main DB. One problem we have is that there codes that the app DB uses that we need to reference as criteria in our SP. Example: Code for a phone type of email is 731. So if we want to pull email addresses we need to Select where PhoneType = 731. We found out that each time the main db is rebuilt those codes change. That means finding everytime we used that code and changing it.

It would be great to be able to set a global variable and use it anytime that code is needed.

Any ideas. The way I have accomplished this myself is to use a UDF (user-defined function). This will give you just one place to make the change.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[getPhoneType]
(
)
RETURNS int AS
BEGIN
RETURN 731
END

To use it:

SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE PhoneType = dbo.getPhoneType()

Terri|||Since you've created another db to hold your add-ons, you could build tables to hold those type of values. I usually create a name/value table to hold things like key/value pairs and then just select the correct record from it when I need it.

GLOBAL CUBE slicing and security challenge

Hi Guys,

Context
I'm working with SSAS 2005 SP2. I'm quite new at it and I'm struggling with an interesting challenge.

I have to create cube files so that Sales Representatives can browse their data offline. A Sales Representative can see his own sales data but also the sales data of the other sales representative with whom he is sharing customers.

For this purpose, I want to use the CREATE GLOBAL CUBE-statement.

I don't know how to implement the last requirement. In T-SQL, it will look as follows for the Sales Reps named "J. Do".

WITH Sales_Reps_Cust(CUSTOMER_ID) AS
(
SELECT F_S.CUSTOMER_ID
FROM FACT.SALES F_S
INNER JOIN DIM.CUSTOMER D_C
ON F_S.CUSTOMER_ID = D_C.CUSTOMER_ID
INNER JOIN DIM.SALES_REPRESENTATIVE D_SR
ON F_S.SALES_REPRESENTATIVE_ID = D_SR.SALES_REPRESENTATIVE_ID
WHERE SALES_REPRESENTATIVE_NAME = 'J. Do'
GROUP BY F_S.CUSTOMER_ID
)
SELECT FS.*
FROM FACT.SALES FS

INNER JOIN Sales_Reps_Cust D_C
ON F_S.CUSTOMER_ID = D_C.CUSTOMER_ID

Questions
In fact, I create a set of all customers of 'J. Do' and then I want to use this set to slice my cube. How can I use this way of thinking in order to make my cube file with CREATE GLOBAL CUBE?

Please advice...

Kind regards,

Hi everybody,

This issue is solved in my other threads "PLEASE HELP!!!! MDX-EXPERTS!!! LOCAL CUBE SECURITY".
