Nautilus is a tool for developers, advanced users and auditors.
The main objetive is to find information in a SQLServer database without knowing too much about the database. User can search tables and records with no SQL knowledge required.

Its true, the tool requires knowing database connection info.
But once loged in you can find tables (sometimes you dont remember exact name), then click over it and see its data and structure, then locate a record filtering data, then pivot a record, see its complete info and follow the foreign keys "paths" to the records it refers to and see which records refer it. A diferent feature is finding a value in any record of any table which only sometimes is needed (this is the "google data" option).

I know that if you give it a try you won't be disappointed.

blindman, I'm very sorry about your problems. I would like some clues about your environment (sqlserver version, xp version, and more).

I can only guess that you have c:\nautilus\nautilus\ in your disk and you created the virutal dir to c:\nautilus instead of c:\nautilus\nautilus. There is always a confusion making zip files. I'll explain it better in next readme file.

By the way, marcoscasa, are you sure you can legally use the verb "google" to advertise your application? Has the term passed into the public domain? It implies that there is some sort of business relationship between you and the search engine company, or that your application uses the same search algorithms as google.

Are there any commercial tools available that allow easy management of sql
server objects? Intellisense, object grouping, hiding system objects etc.?

Good documentation tool

hi all,
if anybody could direct me to a free DB documentation tool for SQL2K that'll
be great. Since we're running out of budget (usual year end crunch, blah
blah!), we cannot budget for buying any new tool...if anyone also knows diff
tools that could be used within SQL2K, pls suggest in brief how to make use
of it for documenting Tables, Triggers, Relation Diagram and Data Dictionary

whether it would be of any help to you.
Pls be adviced that you might need to change the scripts to adhere to ANSI
Joins if at all you are bothered about performance.

good db diagramming tool?

Looking for a recommendation on a good db diagramming tool.
TIAenterprize manager makes diagrams... and shows relationships and stuff
straight from the database
visio is nice for planning, does not create diagrams out of sql,
expensive)
dia is free (uml tool) but more for code planning than db planning|||Visio (for Enterprose Architects) does generate diagrams just reverse
engineer the DB

http://sparxsystems.com.au/products/ea.html ) -- I find the result very hard
to work with / customize, and in general, it looks like crayon scribblings.
Maybe it's only because I've tried using it on large and complex schemas,
and it's been a while -- so maybe their recent builds are better. On the
other hand, we have a couple of people here who have loved it fo as long as
I've known it existed.
Personally, I have not found a diagramming tool that I am satisfied with.
Enterprise Manager is horrible IMHO, and when others here use it (and put
all those stupid objects in there), it usually results in a rap on the
knuckles with my ruler.

Whenever SQL server is installed onto a server it can be accessed by the SQL
MC and easily registered for use. Whenever someone not authorized installs
the SQL MC or a third party tool with the same capabilities all database con
tent can be altered !! THIS
IS A VERY SERIOUS THREAD !
Is there a way to prevent this?

The NetherlandsCan you please elaborate on your concerns? Only users who have been granted
access to SQL Server can connect and access database objects. When SQL
Server is initially installed, only members of the local Administrators
group can connect. Once you grant an account access to SQL Server, they can
use any tool but are limited by the SQL Server permissions you have granted.
